The Friends of the Library of Collier County is hosting a free book fair in Naples on Saturday, Nov. 13, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Collier County South Regional Library, 8065 Lely Cultural Parkway.
Of the more than 50 Southwest Florida writers featured at the book fair, two are members of the Press Club of Southwest Florida, and they have been chosen to be in the spotlight at the event as featured speakers at 1 p.m.
Jeff Margolis, a member of our Board of Governors, is the author of “The Presidents’ Pen: Reflections on Presidential Literature.”
In his book, Jeff investigates the stories behind the more than 150 books written by American presidents. He provides synopses of the writings of 16 presidents and offers insights into how their works impacted their lives and legacies.
An educator and lecturer, Jeff has spent much of his academic career working with teachers and future teachers. He has presented papers at numerous academic conferences nationwide and served as a consultant for several textbooks.
He and his wife Ida, also a press club member, enjoy traveling around the country visiting museums, libraries and historical sites relating to U.S. presidents.
Also featured at the Nov. 13 book fair will be press club member Steve McGuire, author of the political thriller “Prior Restraint.” Steve’s novel takes place in Washington, DC., with a page-turning plot that involves terrorism and the news media.
Prior to moving to Naples with his wife Doris, also a press club member, Steve had a 30+-year legal career serving as an attorney and federal judge in Washington, DC. He retired in 2008 as Chief Judge of the Federal Trade Commission, then returned to his hometown of Louisville, KY, where he served as Vice President for Corporate Compliance at the University of Louisville Hospital.
Be sure to mark your calendar to attend the Nov. 13 book fair. Connie Kindsvater, Chair of our Scholarship Committee and Immediate Past President of the Friends of the Library of Collier County, hopes you will come out and support all of the authors participating in this year’s event, including our own Jeff Margolis and Steve McGuire.
