Your Board in Action

Julie Pedretti, President

The May 9 NPC Board Meeting provided an opportunity to identify key topics for discussion at the upcoming summer planning retreat. Member recruitment and retention, raising funds for the NPC Journalism Scholarship Fund, community outreach and developing special programs are areas that will be addressed during a 5-hour planning session. Of course, the retreat also gives board members and invited guests an opportunity to get to know one another better.

As we contemplate strategies to recruit new members and retain existing members, we will look at the demographics of our current members. It is helpful to have complete biographical information about members in our database. Members: Please take a minute to review your information and provide updated information (title, company, address, phone number, email address, etc.) to NPCBioPage@gmail.com.

Pulitzer Prize finalist Brett Murphy, a young reporter with the Naples Daily News, is our featured speaker for the June 7 lunch program. Plan to join us as we “Celebrate Free Press and the Future of Journalism.” Retired Time, Inc. CEO Dick Munro’s stirring speech about the vital nature of a free press, delivered at this year’s Honor the Free Press Luncheon, will be read by former CBS Correspondent Bob Orr.

At that meeting, you will also meet several of our current and new NPC Journalism Scholarship students.

If you have an interest in becoming more involved in NPC or if you have ideas for future programs, please let us know.
