Good Things are Happening!
Maria Cortes (Wartburg College, Iowa-sophomore) will again host a Student Work Week during spring break (Mar. 2-9) in her hometown of Immokalee, with a busload of 30 Wartburg students joining her to work on preplanned community projects there.
Melissa Gomez (UF-senior, editor-in-chief, The Independent Florida Alligator) will be interning at the New York Times this summer for 10 weeks as a PAID metro intern. And she’s currently working on scheduling spending a day in Tallahassee with Kathleen Passidomo, who represents Collier and Lee Counties (28th District) in the Florida Senate.
Ellie Rushing (Rollins College-junior, editor-in-chief, The Sandspur) has received a PAID internship this summer at the Sun-Sentinel, Ft. Lauderdale.
Aiden Strawhun (FGCU-senior) was accepted into the Journalism School at UC Berkeley this fall, as part of the new media program.
Jaynie Tice (FGCU-senior) is writing a seven-part series on human trafficking for eBella Magazine, Naples, (Feb. 2017-Feb. 2018), where she interned and is now a staff writer. Coincidentally, the topic of the next NPC Luncheon on Mar. 1 is “Human Sex Trafficking.”
P.S. If the rest of the NPC Scholarship Students have “news to share,” please let me know. I always give an update at each of the NPC Luncheons.
