Daniel Bumstead, President of the Naples Council on World Affairs, will be the featured speaker at the April 22nd luncheon event.His address will touch on the Council’s outreach program to area high schools, their model United Nations program and the Village Assistance Program. These programs, he notes, help prepare our youth to better face the challenges of the world we have given them.
He will also comment on the troubled hot spots of the world and address Press freedom, or lack of it. According to our speaker, although there is a new administration in Washington, world problems remain the same. Members of the press continue to risk their lives covering wars that never seem to end. "What's Cuba going to be like when Castro dies? Will newspapers be allowed to flourish?"
Guests will have an opportunity to ask these questions of Bumstead at this upcoming NPC luncheon.
Bumstead’s illustrious career includes 34 years spent fighting the Cold War in the Central Intelligence Agency’s operations directorate, also known as the clandestine service. He served in Africa, Europe and the Middle East, although when pinned down, he admits that the bulk of his career was spent in Washington and Paris.
Since 1998, with the exception of a two-year period, Dan has served as a director of the Naples Council on World Affairs, and throughout the whole period, until 2008, as Committee for Social Activities chairman. This committee focuses on foreign policy.
Lunch begins at 11:30 am at the Bellasera Hotel, 221 Ninth Street South, in downtown Naples.
