Because we have provided scholarships to 21 journalism students to-date, Phil Beuth dubbed our recent fundraising campaign “21 More.” Two of this year’s students — Oscar Santiago and John Wix — graduated in December, leaving four others still plugging away. Provided they continue to meet their obligations, we’ll fund these four for the 2016-17 school year plus one or two new students.
We received donations to our scholarship fund from 29 individuals. We earned an additional amount from sales at our NPC Book Fair at Barnes & Noble in November. Here’s the breakdown:
- On July 27, 2015, Champions for Learning Fund Balance: $217.18
- Total of donations from 29 individuals: $8995
- Earned at Barnes & Noble Book Fair: $439.70
- Total in fund to-date: $9651.88
We hope more NPC members will heed the need and send a check — payable to Champions for Learning — to Phil Beuth, 873 Barcarmil Way, Naples 34110.
During this, the club’s 20th anniversary year, we will devise special events that will support the fund, but we anticipate our primary contributors will always be our members. You, more than anyone else, understand the critical need to encourage the next generation of journalists.
