Two of our NPC members have recently published books for children.
Past president Joan J. Curley’s Malcolm, the Muscovy Duck of Naples, Florida, released by Barringer Publishers and beautifully illustrated by Sam Platt, reveals to its very young audience the benefits these somewhat ugly creatures bring to our community. Appearances are often deceiving, and that’s a good thing for youngsters to learn. The information is charmingly related by Malcolm Muscovy himself, who describes his lifestyle, habitat, and favorite Naples hangouts.
The Legend of Charter Oak, by Cynthia Bercowetz with illustrations by Debbie Tosun Kilday, is published by Strong Books. Young readers will learn some fascinating local history and lore. The premise is that Grandpa Herman is telling the tale to two grandchildren, who learn about the place of the tree in history and the important pieces of furniture eventually made from it. The tale is broken up into effective bite-sized chapters, just right for young listeners and readers.
Reminder: Local Author and Book Fest
Saturday, February 21, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the South Regional Library. Join 30+ local authors and discuss, celebrate and discover books for adults, children and teens.
This is a perfect venue to meet local writers, purchase books and participate in several breakout sessions. A list of participating authors, breakout sessions and important information will be posted on our website www.collierlibrary.org in early January enabling everyone to schedule their time at this event.
