A Note from the Editor

You might not have noticed there’s something different about your Scoop newsletter today. This is my first newsletter as editor and I’m looking forward to this new challenge. In the coming weeks, I’ll be looking for ways to improve the newsletter and introduce new content.

Scoop has served its readers by providing stories and photos showcasing the Press Club of Southwest Florida and its members. We have those same goals today but are focusing on revamping some of the content of the newsletter. We will still have an emphasis on our fabulous members, but we hope to present it to you in a more organized and visual way.

For those of you that I haven’t met yet I want to introduce myself.

My love affair with journalism began in rural southern Indiana. I grew up in a 500-person town just down the road from Milan, Ind., the real-life inspiration for the movie Hoosiers. I joined my high school newspaper staff during my junior year and I’ve spent every day since devoted to the craft.

In college I worked as a designer and editor for the Ball State Daily News during the week and performed with the dance team at football games on the weekend. In February 2007 I traded the hills of Indiana for the beaches of Florida when I joined the Naples Daily News as a lead designer and later associate editor of one of its community publications.

The past three years I’ve served as managing editor of our six community publications. I’m geeky about design, passionate about good story telling and over the top with organization. I also enjoy shopping, traveling, fashion, photography, cooking and spending time with my sportswriter husband and our adorable 2-year-old daughter who will become a big sister in November when her little brother joins us.

I’m eager for this new challenge of being the editor for Scoop. I want to encourage you to reach out to me with your story ideas or content suggestions. I will continue to make adjustments during the coming editions. I ask that you help guide those changes with your feedback. Email your likes, dislikes and suggestions to me at pfisher@naplesnews.com.
