The family of Phil Jones, longtime member of the Press Club of Southwest Florida, has planned a memorial service for Saturday, September 14, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Bonita Springs, 9751 Bonita Beach Rd. S.E., Bonita Springs. Press club members are encouraged to attend.
Upon learning of Phil’s death, several club board members shared their thoughts. Longtime board member and philanthropist Phil Beuth wrote on behalf of his own family, “Phil Jones will be missed, but so many of his recollections about people and events will survive, and be remembered so enjoyably. He reported so much history to millions of viewers over many years. He will be fondly remembered by all whose paths he crossed. May God bless.”
Club secretary Tom Marquardt said, “Wow, very sad. He is one of the titans that drew me to the club, an institution he supported dearly.” And board member Frank Cipolla noted, “So sad. Anyone who watched news during that era knew Phil Jones. God rest his soul.”
Vice President of Administration Bob Orr wrote a tribute to Phil, his former CBS colleague, which was published last week in SCOOP. Bob described Phil as “…the kind of reporter the rest of us strived to be. He was a tenacious journalist who was curious, accurate, and fair.
