New Public Speaking Class offered in Collier County

Want to be more effective when speaking to the county commission, the school board, your colleagues or any other group of people? Ever wondered how to make an audience more receptive to your message? How to relax and present your point in a convincing manner?

The Education Department of The Naples Players (TNP) is pleased to announce the addition of a new Public Speaking Class to their impressive list of performance-themed educational programs.

A fun-filled, informative workshop for those who must—or want to—speak in public, the new class will consist of six Tuesday evening sessions from June 21 to July 26. Classes run from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Sugden Community Theatre, 701 5th Ave. S., Naples.

Instructor Randall Kenneth Jones will provide hands-on public speaking guidance for business professionals, government employees, members of the news media, civic activists and many others. The class is ideal for teachers, reporters, performers, government spokespersons, would-be elected officials, non-profit representatives, community outreach personnel, business and real estate professionals.

Jones, a familiar face to Sugden Theatre audiences, is a respected actor, business columnist, marketing/PR consultant and motivational speaker.

“The most important issue is getting students on their feet in front of others,” explains Jones. “Though there are certainly specific techniques to successful public speaking, my emphasis is on helping each speaker reach a new comfort level by discovering—and expressing—their authentic selves in front of an audience.”

In addition to a variety of “on-your-feet” exercises, Jones has included a book club segment: a group exploration of the recently released Ted Talks by Chris Anderson.

The curriculum will also include lessons learned from Jones’s time spent with high-profile public speaking virtuosos Erin Brockovich, James Carville, Barbara Corcoran, Jeffrey Hayzlett, Mary Matalin, Suze Orman, Bob Orr, Peggy Post and Peter Thomas.

“There is an educational spirit to everything we do at The Naples Players, whether that education takes place on stage or in a classroom,” says TNP Executive Director John Sorey. “As The Naples Players is also a vibrant Collier County business, we are pleased to serve members of the local business community with this new educational opportunity.”

Class Fee: Non-Members – $200; TNP Members – $140; TNP Working Members – $125
