The Press Club of Southwest Florida has always been powered by volunteers.
Every luncheon, every scholarship, every Newsmaker event, every opportunity to bring journalists and the public together begins with members who are willing to step forward and help.
Today, I’m asking a few more members to do exactly that.
As the club continues to grow, we have two important leadership opportunities that need your help.
The first is to chair, or become a member of, our Program Committee.
This is one of the most rewarding roles in the organization. The Program Committee helps shape the conversations that define our club by identifying guest speakers, panel discussions, Newsmaker luncheons, and informal gatherings that inform, educate, and inspire our members.
The good news is that one of the biggest challenges of producing events has largely been solved. After considerable effort, the club now has a cost-effective, turnkey venue relationship that simplifies the logistics of hosting events. That means the Program Committee can focus less on finding locations and more on what really matters: Great speakers, compelling topics, and meaningful conversations.
Our membership includes journalists, communicators, educators, public officials, business leaders, and community advocates with extensive professional networks. Collectively, we know an extraordinary number of people with stories worth hearing. We need someone willing to help turn those connections into outstanding programs.
We also need a club Treasurer.
Fortunately, the business side of the Press Club is neither complex nor burdensome. The role primarily involves overseeing a modest number of invoices, monitoring income and expenses, and helping ensure the club remains financially healthy and transparent. It is an important responsibility, but one that requires only a reasonable commitment of time and attention.
The Press Club has accomplished a great deal over the years because members have been willing to contribute their talents when needed. Our future success depends on that same spirit of service.
If you have ever enjoyed a luncheon, learned something from a guest speaker, benefited from a networking opportunity, or simply appreciated having a strong professional journalism organization in Southwest Florida, I hope you will consider joining its leadership.
You do not have to do everything.
You simply have to be willing to help.
If you are interested in serving as Program Committee Chair, Treasurer, or would like to learn more about either role, please contact me by sending an email to my attention at info@pressclubswfl.org.
Together, we can continue building a Press Club that informs, connects, and serves our members and our community.
Thank you for your consideration and your support.
