Dec. 8 Annual Meeting & “Newsmaker” Luncheon Featuring Dr. Aysegul Timur, new FGCU President

We hope you will join us for lunch Friday, Dec. 8, 2023, at Hilton Naples. Following a short annual meeting of the Press Club of Southwest Florida, we will hear from “Newsmaker” Dr. Aysegul Timur, the new President of Florida Gulf Coast University. The 32-year-old FGCU now has an enrollment of nearly 14,000 undergraduate students.

FGCU: From Idea to Impact

Dr. Timur will share the many different ways that FGCU is having an impact on the region, including:

  • Sharing examples of the impact of strategic partnerships;
  • Providing a preview of what is next for the Southwest Florida workforce; and
  • Giving an overview of ground-breaking innovations and research that will impact future generations.

Aysegul Timur, Ph.D., was selected to become Florida Gulf Coast University’s fifth president on May 4, 2023, following a unanimous endorsement from the FGCU Board of Trustees. Her presidency was confirmed by the Florida Board of Governors in June of this year. In her most recent role, Timur served as Vice President and Vice Provost for Strategy and Program Innovation at FGCU, where she has worked since 2019.

Dr. Timur received her doctoral degree in Business Administration, majoring in Economics, from the University of South Florida, and both her Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees in Business Administration from the University of Istanbul. Her areas of specialization include business policy and organizational development, quality and continuous improvement, health, and international economics. She is a go-to expert for workforce development and was recently honored by the Florida College Access Network as one of its first Workforce Education Innovators. Before joining the University team, she held a variety of faculty and executive leadership positions in higher education, including full professor of economics.

Registration begins at 11:30 a.m., lunch will be served around noon, followed by a brief annual meeting and presentation by Dr. Timur. There will be time for you to ask questions at the end of her presentation.
