Press Club Awards $11,300 in Journalism Scholarships

Ten Collier and Lee County students were recently awarded $1,000 Terrence J. Miller Journalism Scholarships by the Press Club of Southwest Florida, and one student was selected for the $1,300 Endowed Florida Gulf Coast University Foundation 2021-22 Journalism Scholarship.

Press Club Scholarship students are given an honorary membership in the Press Club and may attend Press Club events at no cost. Press Club members also volunteer to be mentors to the scholarship students. The mentors help the students in many ways, especially in helping them find meaningful internships.

One of the missions of the Press Club is to support journalists of the future through scholarships and mentoring. Since 2007, the Press Club has awarded 106 scholarships to selected students majoring in the journalism/media fields.

Collier and Lee County students may apply for the annual scholarship awards, and the scholarships are renewable provided that the students continue to meet the criteria. In addition, a Press Club Endowed FGCU Foundation Scholarship was established in 2010, and in 2021-22 will have a value of $1,300.
