Honoring Jim Farrell: Please Join Roundtable Taping March 10

Please join us Wednesday, March 10, at noon for our next edition of Roundtable as we honor one of our area’s favorite broadcast legends.

WINK Chief Meteorologist Jim Farrell is retiring after 39 years of service to the people of Southwest Florida, the last 29 years at the Fort Myers CBS affiliate.

Farrell has been a steady reassuring presence, calmly and accurately guiding viewers through the biggest weather challenges of the last several decades, including Hurricanes Charley in 2004, Wilma in 2005, and Irma in 2017.

Along the way Farrell also oversaw a parade of hot muggy summers, tropical downpours, and breathtaking sunsets. He has done all of it with a smile, and his forecasts have long been a daily planning staple for people in Charlotte, Lee, and Collier Counties.

Everyone loves “the weatherman,” especially when he’s right! On Wednesday we have a chance to say thank you, so please be a part of it.

Press Club Board Member George Lehner, who first proposed this tribute, will lead the discussion and will be joined by two of Farrell’s WINK teammates, Chris Cifatte and Lois Thome.

The Zoom taping is open to all members of the Press Club of Southwest Florida. If you’d like to attend, please email me at boborr21@gmail.com and I will send you a Zoom invitation link.

As always, the discussion will be shared on the Club’s YouTube channel. Click here to watch the most recent Roundtable on local TV News featuring WINK News Director Tom Doerr and NBC-2 & ABC-7 Assistant News Director Tim Klutsarits.
