Never have journalists and media organizations been under the kind of threat they’re under today. In this increasingly dangerous atmosphere, how can journalists and media organizations protect themselves? In our January luncheon we’ll explore the dangers, the experiences, and the measures that can be taken so that reporting can continue — and so that journalists can stay safe.
Our panelists include:
Delia D’Ambra
Delia D’Ambra, an NBC2 news reporter who was recently assaulted while reporting in North Fort Myers, will share her experience and its lessons. Delia is a 2014 graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Media and Journalism. She earned a bachelor of arts degree in journalism and mass communication as well as a minor in creative writing. She is originally from North Carolina and grew up on the Outer Banks. Before starting at NBC2, Delia was a general assignment reporter for NBC29 WVIR news in Charlottesville, Virginia. She covered a variety of breaking news and human interest stories. She was also an integral part of winter storm team coverage and local election specials.
Rich Kolko
Rich Kolko, security reporter for WINK-TV and former FBI agent and spokesman, will talk about vulnerability and protection. Rich was hired in 2019 as the Safety and Security Specialist at WINK News. He was an FBI Special Agent from 1996-2017 serving in Atlanta, New York, FBI headquarters and Quantico, Virginia. Rich served in the Navy, both on active duty and the reserve, retiring as a Commander in 2011. His news philosophy is to work to help the citizens of Southwest Florida keep their family, cyber, and finances safe and secure. Rich holds a Masters in Homeland Security from American Military University and a Bachelors in Communications from the University of Miami.
Collier County Sheriff Kevin Rambosk
Collier County Sheriff Kevin Rambosk will provide a law enforcement perspective. Sheriff Rambosk began his local career in the Naples Police Department, serving from 1978-1991. He served as the interim director of community services for the City of Naples in 1991, assistant city manager in 1993, chief of police in 1995, and city manager in 1999. In 2003 he became captain of the Organized Crime Division, chief of operations, undersheriff, and chief of staff for the Collier County Sheriff’s Office. He was elected Sheriff of Collier County in 2008, then reelected in 2012 and 2016. He holds an AA degree in police science from Bergen Community College, Paramus, New Jersey; BS degree in public safety administration from William Paterson University; MBA from Nova University; and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy.
