Updates on the ten 2018-19 NPC Scholarship Students

Camilla Cal (NHS 2017, UCF journalism major) will go to summer school to get an early start on her college experience. After graduating Summa Cum Laude she took a year off to help care for her mom who was battling cancer, and is better now. (Mentor-Carole Greene)

Tamica Jean-Charles (NHS, FIU-Miami journalism/mass communications major) is interning this summer at the Naples Daily Herald (online newspaper). She will be a junior this fall and is on the staff of her school newspaper. (Mentor-Oscar Santiago)

Deanna Lampasona-Colon (Lely HS, USF journalism/mass communications major) will be a freshman and will continue to write her fitness blog for young females, like herself, who have struggled with weight issues. (Mentor-Mary Ramshaw, a newer NPC member)

Sebastian Languidey (NHS, FAU sports media and online journalism major) will start classes this summer, his freshman year. Since student newspapers and tennis are both of interest to him, look for him to get involved in some way with those two interests. (Mentor-Connie Kindsvater)

Brianna Monroe (Marco Island Academy, UF journalism/communications major) will continue her self-made business of creating websites and her photography business while in college. (Mentor-Karla Wheeler)

Maria Munguia-Cortes (HIS, Wartburg College, IA, journalism/communications and Spanish double major) was not able to attend the luncheon because she’s already in Rochester, NY, for her summer internship. (Mentor-Rhona Saunders)

Kala Parkinson (BCHS, UF journalism major) will be a sophomore in the fall and hopes to do some “job shadowing” this summer. (Mentor-Karla Wheeler)

Mark Pierre (Hallandale HS, FGCU) is our 2018-19 FGCU NPC Endowed Scholarship student and a journalism major. He’ll be a senior this year and is involved in Greek life at FGCU, is the programming director of Eagle Radio, a host for Eagle News Television and a photojournalist for Eagle News. He is also involved with other organizations and does some community volunteer work. He wants to be a television host. (Mentor-Rachel Pierce)

Ellie Rushing (NHS, Rollins College) was not able to attend the luncheon as she was already at her summer paid internship at the Fort Lauderdale Sun Sentinel. For her upcoming senior year she’ll again be the editor-in-chief of her school’s newspaper. (Mentor-Connie Kindsvater)

Shelly Westervelt (Seacrest School, UF) returned from her short internship in London in time to attend the luncheon; she has shadowed Rachel Pierce (NBC2 Morning News) and hopes to do more shadowing this summer. (Mentor-Debbie Meade)
